Hello
I've been running my own HR
and training consultancy business
since 1990. I started findHR4u
because I wanted to provide an
easy way for organisations to
find independent HR and training
consultants like me, but there
didn’t seem
to be anywhere for them to search
for suitably qualified individuals.
I thought an on-line register
was a good idea and other CIPD
members seemed to agree,
so I decided to start one myself.
After a lot of anguish and a steep
learning curve, when I realised
that my evening class on writing
dynamic web pages hadn’t
given me all the answers I needed
to set up a database driven site,
findHR4u was launched at the Harrogate
CIPD exhibition in October 2005
and has been growing slowly but
steadily since then.
When I started findHR4u last year
I set relatively low, but fixed
fees. Then I realised that I wanted
to increase the number of people
who could afford to join findHR4u
and so make it an increasingly
attractive place for potential
clients to look for independent
consultants and trainers. So I
decided to adopt a new model of
letting people decide for themselves
what they want to pay.
I believe that people are generally
honest and appreciative of other
people’s
efforts and will want to contribute if they can. I have always believed that
people respond well to being trusted and decided early on that profiles would
contain contact information so that potential clients could talk directly to
the consultants on the findHR4u register. This way of funding findHR4u
is really just an extension of
my philosophy of trusting people
to be honest and do the right thing.
